Summer 2008 Classes
Evening Classes
The Summer Term runs for six weeks beginning July 7 and ending August 15, 2008. Class fees are $75, except for KinderSteps, which costs $70, Choreo 101, which costs $65, and Pre-elementary Ballet, which costs $105. (GST is extra.)
KinderSteps, for ages 3 and 4
A fun-filled 45-minute class introducing children to the worlds of Jazz and Ballet through familiar, magical characters, such as Jasmine, Princesses and the Mermaid in The Mermaid Adventure.
Jazz, for ages 5 and older
This contemporary-style Jazz class features today’s music and involves the dancer with the choreography!
Tap, for ages 5 and older
Rhythm and tone set the pace for this upbeat dance form. Innovative teaching methods add fun as the dancer improves ability and technique.
Lyrical, for ages 10 and older
Tell a story through dance using Ballet and Jazz techniques.
Ballet, for ages 5 and older
The children follow the Russian Ballet Syllabus as they dance through the stories of Angelina Ballerina.
Acro, for ages 6 and older
Dance acrobatics is especially designed for the dancer who wishes to focus on flexibility and strength. Dance is practised during the class.
Hip-Hop, for ages 5 and older
Based on street dance, Hip-Hop just keeps growing more popular. This dance form uses the most up-to-date techniques, including pop and lock. Boys’ Hip-Hop has elements of Breakdancing.
Musical Theatre, for ages 6 and older
Learn to dance while lip-synching to numbers from musicals such as High School Musical, Annie, Grease and other great shows.
Hiphopersize, for adults
Improve your cardio performance with Hip-Hip, the new upcoming exercise dance program.
Breakdancing, for ages 8 and older
Street inspired, Breakdancing has made a big comeback. Learn the safe and fun way to Breakdance. Learn pop and lock, slide’n’glide, floor spins and other moves.
Choreo 101
Learn the basis of choreography with an award-winning choreographer. This four-week program is for the experienced dancer.
Summer Intensive Workshop
At this Workshop, now in its seventh year, dancers study Ballet with Ballet Master Ping Feng, and Jazz, Lyrical, Stretch, Strength, Hip-Hop, Tap and Technique with choreographers from New York City and Toronto.
The Workshop challenges dancers technically. Its program stresses, balance and flexibility—and tests their abilities to learn new choreography. Dancers can expect to review familiar dance elements and learn new ones fresh from the world’s dance capital.
The Summer Intensive Workshop is offered at Junior and Senior levels to dancers with at least 3 years of dance experience. The Workshop takes place August 18-22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fees are $480, plus GST. Register before May 1, 2008, to receive a 15% early-registration discount.
Storytime Dance Camps
Our Summer Day Camps run July 14-18 and August 11-15, 2008. Our fully qualified teachers aim to make a student’s dancing experience especially rewarding—in a word, fun. Please note that The Studio School of Dancers offers a peanut-free environment.
Half-day Camp, for ages 3 to 6
Students learn a variety of dance forms, crafts, songs and Special Storytelling as they develop a theme together. Themes include Cinderella, Under the Sea and Join the Circus. Excitement builds each day as dancers prepare to present their Special Story on the last day of Camp. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Campers must bring a snack each day. Camp fees are $120 a week, plus GST.
Full-day Camp, for ages 6 to 12
Students take part in Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre and Acro. They create props and costumes, and learn how to put on make-up as they develop a theme through the art of Storytelling. Storytelling themes include I Want To Be a Star, Under the Sea and The Carnival. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Campers must bring snacks and a lunch each day. Camp fees are $180 a week, plus GST.
Teacher and Assistant Preparation Program (T.A.P.P.) Workshop
The T.A.P.P. Workshop is required for Teachers and Assistants who lead classes at The Studio School of Dance. The Workshop includes St. John Ambulance training. This Workshop takes place August 26-28, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workshop fees are $150, plus GST.
Boot Camp
Boot Camp introduces dancers to three weeks of toning, in part to prepare them for the final date in the Competitive Program. Boot Camp takes place June 10-12, June 17-19 and June 24-26, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Boot Camp fees are $155, plus GST.
New Competitive Dancers Camp
This mandatory camp is for dancers new to The Studio’s Competitive Program. It teaches a wide range of fundamental material in six nights, to help a dancer get off to a successful start in the Program. This camp takes place August 26-28 and September 2-4, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Camp fees are $170, plus GST.
T.A.P.P. Review Camp
This camp reviews the lessons of the T.A.P.P. Workshop. It is an ideal refresher, especially for those returning to teaching after a year’s sabbatical. The camp takes place September 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
