2011-2012 Dance Year

Two terms

The dance year runs from September 16, 2011 to our year end show June 2 & 3, 2012. The year is divided into 2 terms, 1st term begins September 16th, 2011 and 2nd term begins January 27th, 2012. At registration payment for the full year may be made, or payment for payment for 1st term with a postdated cheque or credit card for 2nd term on file. There is a registration fee of $20.00/student for each year. There are no refunds once classes have begun with the exception of KinderSteps where there is more flexibility due to the young age of the dancers.

KinderSteps, for children aged 3 and 4

A class for ages 3 and 4. A fun filled class with weekly themes, the use of exciting props all while learning the magic of dance. The dancers learn the basics of a dance class, such as structure of the class, basic dance moves in ballet and jazz. all while enjoying a new theme each week. Don’t miss this wonderful introduction to dance.

Small Fry, for children aged 5 & 6 (1 hour class)

Small Fry classes for this amazing age group are offered in jazz, tap, ballet, acro, hip-hop & jazz/funk. These fun filled classes teach the basics of each dance discipline in an organized progressive manner. This age begins to follow our teaching syllabus which they will continue throughout their dance training. Popular music is selected and the children love the variety of the music used in all classes.

Ballet (The Society of Russian Ballet), for ages 5 and up (1 hour class, higher levels up to 1.5 hour class)

This traditional art form, the basis of all dance, is performed to classical music as well as popular music. Lessons prepare dancers for The Society of Russian Ballet exams. Pre-ballet through Advanced classes, and teacher training, are available.

Jazz

This dance features contemporary movement to popular music. It develops flexibility, control and technique. Levels range from Beginner to Advanced. Classes prepare dancers for Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T.) exams.

Jazz/Funk, for children aged 5 & up (1 hour class)

This dance form combines traditional jazz movement with hip/hop, allowing the dancer to experience 2 dance forms together. Popular music is used for this class.

Tap

This percussive dance uses rhythm and foot work, and can be performed with or without music. Levels range from Beginner to Advanced. Lessons prepare dancers for A.D.A.P.T. exams.

Musical Theatre, for children aged 7 & up (1 hour class)

Dance expressed through themes from Broadway shows or through portrayals of recognizable characters. A fun class for the beginner dancer or the experienced dancer.

Acro, for children aged 3 & up (45 min. class for younger children, 1 hour for ages 7 & up)

Dance Acro incorporates acrobatic moves such as walkovers, handspring, cartwheels, front rolls, handstands etc. into dance. The class works on dance movement along with the acro movement to produce a dance/acro choreography.

Lyrical, for children aged 12 & up (1 hour class)

In this blend of Jazz and Ballet technique, dancers employ movement to express the emotion in a piece of music.

Hip-Hop

This popular, urban-based dance form is usually performed to Hip-Hop or R&B music. Dancers are introduced to the many different forms of Hip Hop throughout the year.

Streetdance, for ages 8 and older (1 hour for beginner, 1.25 hours for experienced level)

Streetdance is danced to funk or Hip-Hop music and incorporates traditional hip hop, breakdance, athletic gymnastic moves, pop, lock, etc. This popular class appeals to girls and boys alike.

Yoga, children ages 7 & up (1 hour class)

Yoga classes are available for the dancer and non dancer alike. Daytime and evening classes.

Adults (we would never forget the grown up's)

The Studio has classes for adult dancers in Jazz, Tap, Ballet & Hip Hop & Yoga in beginner and intermediate levels. 'Keep Fit...Dance A Bit' Great fun, meet new people, learn a new skill and feel energized.

Drop-In Classes for the adult dancer at an advanced level is available: Contemporary Jazz, Ballet Open, Yoga Class

Year End Recital, June 2 & 3, 2012. Recital handbook available after Feb. 1, 2012

This is an exciting time for the dancers. They begin choreography for the year end show in Feb. or each year, costumes are ordered, rehearsal is held, tickets are sold for the big event… The dancers are excited to show their family and friends what they have learned throughout the year... information on our year end show will be on the website as well as posted on our studio dance boards and e-mailed to families.

A.D.A.P.T., The Society of Russian Ballet exams

The A.D.A.P.T. syllabus is an organized method of teaching. It is the best performance based syllabus in Canada. Our teachers are all experienced in the ADAPT method. Exams take place in November or December. The Society of Russian Ballet syllabus is dynamic and performance-based. Exams take place in December.

Recreational students are encouraged to participate in exams and the teachers will invite dancers once they are ready for each level.
