Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 Classes

KinderSteps, for ages 3 and 4

KinderDance teaches the basics of movement and dance using Ballet, Jazz and Tap techniques. Dancers develop coordination, a sense of rhythm, self-awareness, creative expression and teamwork, and learn in-class behaviour and manners.

Ballet (The Society of Russian Ballet), for ages 5 and older

This traditional art form is the basis of all dance performed to classical music. Classes prepare dancers for The Society of Russian Ballet exams. Pre-ballet through Advanced classes, and teacher training, are available.

Jazz, for ages 5 and older

This dance features contemporary movement to popular music. It develops flexibility, control and technique. Levels range from Beginner to Advanced. Classes prepare dancers for Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (A.D.A.P.T.) exams.

Tap, for ages 5 and older

This percussive dance uses rhythm and foot work, and can be performed with or without music. Levels range from Beginner to Advanced. Classes prepare dancers for A.D.A.P.T. exams.

Lyrical, for dancers with 4 years experience in The Company

In this blend of Jazz and Ballet techniques, dancers employ movement to express the emotion in a piece of music.

Hip-Hop, for ages 7 and older

This popular, urban-based dance form is usually performed to Hip-Hop or R&B music. We also offer Video Dance, a new dance form that is sweeping the country.

Breakdancing, for ages 8 and up

This form of street dancing may be the best known of all the Hip-Hop styles. It is normally danced to funk or Hip-Hop music.

Two terms

The Fall Term is from September 10, 2008, to January 18, 2009. The Spring Term is from January 18, 2009, to May 31, 2009.

Year End Recital

The week of June 1 to June 7 is reserved for dress rehearsal, photo shoots and the Year End Recital performances. Each class will perform on-stage, and each number will require a costume. Tickets are sold for this event, and dancers are encouraged to take part.

A.D.A.P.T., The Society of Russian Ballet exams

The A.D.A.P.T. syllabus balances exacting technique in rehearsal with individual expression in performance. Exams take place in November or December. The Society of Russian Ballet syllabus is dynamic and performance-based. Exams take place in December.

About exams, times and fees

Company dancers must, and Recreational dancers are asked to, take exams. Exams take place on week days. Fees for exam preparatory classes and for the exams apply.
